Rural systems are on the brink of some fundamental challenges which, on the one hand, pushes them to look for transformative solutions and, on the other hand, they must identify concepts, models, and instruments to consolidate the resilience of their particular values. We can say, at the limit, that rural worlds have disappeared. Our reality has urbanized in its most unknown hidden places. Everything comes from the city and comes back to the city. The new citizens of the world are the townies.

Knowledge should produce new instruments for the strategic management of rural development in the context of new global challenges.
